GSK System Leaders Forum
Together with HSJ Information, this innovative event series convenes senior NHS system leaders to shape a clear vision for evolving patient services
In March 2026, GSK hosted the first System Leaders Forum together with HSJ Information, at the Royal College of General Practitioners.
This non-promotional innovative event brought together system leaders from across the NHS to discuss how respiratory care and commissioning of services must evolve to meet future demand.
The forum explored new models of care and the policy levers shaping respiratory services, including the NHS 10 Year Health Plan and the strategic commissioning framework, highlighting the urgent need to tackle respiratory disease (including COPD and asthma) by faster and more equitable access to diagnosis and treatment.
The day began with keynote talks from Professor Michael Crooks, NHS Humber Health Partnership and University of Hull, and Andrew McCracken from Asthma + Lung UK, followed by panel discussions with leading stakeholders from across the field.
In the afternoon session, multidisciplinary workshop teams co-designed new models of care to address key system challenges and pressures,
strengthen partnerships and leverage community-based models, resulting in actionable plans to transform respiratory pathways and improve patient outcomes.

- Understanding the roles of ICBs in shaping integrated respiratory pathways.
- How respiratory care is prioritised amongst other priorities and how is it aligned with population health management.
- Innovative models of care (virtual wards, community-based interventions).
- Panel 2: Making It Happen – From Strategy to Implementation Through Service Delegation
This covered:
- Commissioning levers and practical steps to deliver transformation.
- How to identify enablers and measures of success & KPIs.
- Establishing how to develop the workforce to implement the strategy.
- Panel 3: Showcasing Successful Respiratory Care Transformation – Greater Manchester
This covered:
- A case study presentation of respiratory transformation.
- Barriers encountered and how to overcome them.

As we continue to collaborate, this hub will be updated with more content and resources to support the evolution of care pathways and strengthen partnerships.
Next in our series of webinars will be a session focused on business case development within the NHS. We will present case studies from experts who have successfully secured resources for their initiatives by demonstrating value to both patients and the wider system. We encourage attendees to bring their own experiences, as well as any encountered challenges in this process to the business case clinic.
